Childhood and adolescence can be an emotional rollercoaster for most children as they experience the highs and lows of growing up. And that is perfectly normal.
However, if you’re reading this, it may be because you have a gut feeling that something isn’t quite right with your child.
The list below shows some of the main indicators that all is not well. These changes in behaviour can be quite subtle and progress over a period of time. Or it can be as if someone’s pulled the rug from under your feet. One day, everything seems normal; the next everything has changed:
-
Self-harm
-
Significant drop in academic performance
-
Not eating properly
-
Time off school with various physical health complaints or reluctance to go to school
-
A change in mood which is fairly consistent for 2 weeks or more
-
Extreme tiredness
-
Staying at home, not going out and meeting friends (social withdrawal or isolation).
